Band Width and Sizing

This is the detail most guides skip — and the most common reason a ring that's "the right size" doesn't feel right.

The wider the band, the more surface area it covers on your finger — and the snugger it feels, even at the same diameter. This isn't a fit problem or a manufacturing issue. A 6mm band in size 7 will feel noticeably tighter than a 2mm band in size 7 because it wraps more of your finger. The adjustment below accounts for that.

Band Width Style Examples Sizing Adjustment
Under 4mm Thin bands, solitaire settings Your standard size
4–5mm Classic / medium wedding bands Consider going up ¼ size
6–8mm Wide bands, eternity style Go up ½ size
9mm and above Statement bands Go up ½ to 1 full size

Finger shape, particularly the difference between your knuckle and the base of your finger, can affect how much adjustment you need. When in doubt, go up.

A Special Note on Eternity Bands

Eternity bands — where diamonds run continuously around the entire band — cannot be resized after purchase. The continuous stone setting leaves no open section of metal to add or remove.

This makes getting the size right before ordering more important here than with any other style. When in doubt, go up half a size. If you're unsure, reach out before placing your order — this is exactly the kind of call we're happy to help with.

Stacking Your Rings

Planning to wear your ring alongside a wedding band, or stack multiple rings on the same finger? The combined width has the same effect as a single wider band — more surface contact, snugger feel.

If you plan to stack three or more rings, sizing up a quarter to half size from your standard size will give you more comfortable day-to-day wear.

Sizing Tips to Keep in Mind

Buying as a Surprise

Planning a proposal or gift without being able to ask directly? Here are a few methods to find her ring size without asking:

One important note: If you're not certain of the size and want to keep it a surprise, avoid ordering an eternity band or a ring with diamonds all the way around as the proposal ring — it can't be resized after purchase. A solitaire or simpler setting gives you the flexibility to resize after you've popped the question.

Resizing Policy

If your engagement ring or wedding band doesn't fit after delivery, we'll resize it free within one year of purchase — up to 1.5 sizes in either direction.

Eternity bands cannot be resized due to the continuous diamond setting. We encourage you to follow this guide to try get the size right the first time around! Getting it right before it ships is always easier than working it out after.

If you're still not sure, contact us at hello@labgrowndiamonds.com before you order. Sizing is one of the things we're happy to help with — especially for wider styles, eternity bands, or anything where you're between sizes.

However, if you do order the wrong size, contact us within the return window at hello@labgrowndiamonds.com and we'll arrange a reorder in the correct size.
